We All Need Help Sometimes

Sometimes when life gets the better of us, we struggle to ask for help. It certainly isn’t always easy to ask others for help, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t. In fact, a little help can go a long way! Let’s consider the struggles faced by pregnant and/or parenting teens: it isn’t uncommon for teenage parents to find themselves financially unable to purchase diapers, wipes, and baby formula for their children. Beyond that, oftentimes these young parents oftentimes have no idea where to start when it comes to raising children, having had very little or no support from family and friends.

This is where Crittenton Centers Family Services steps in. Our Stepping Stones Program is designed to help support pregnant and/or parenting teens who are legal wards of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. Specifically, Stepping Stones provides free, in-home services such as prenatal education, teen parent education, training, and support, health care management, individual and group counseling, and prevention education. These services help teenage parents address and manage the responsibilities and tasks of pregnancy and parenting. Furthermore, the program is designed to help reduce the risk of placement disruptions by providing crisis intervention to the teen.

The best part of our Stepping Stones program is that, like all of our programs and services, it is funded through grants and supported by the kind contributions of our donors. Every donor dollar that goes into the Stepping Stones program goes toward helping another struggling teenage parent in need. In fact, $10.00 is enough to provide a nutritional meal for a teen parent receiving intensive home visiting services through our Stepping Stones Program. A little love can go a long way to helping someone who might desperately need it.

Are you looking to lend a helping hand? Look no further! There are many ways to help us help others, whether that be through volunteering or donation. To see a full list of ways to give, please visit our website at
